What are Uterine Fibroids?

Fibroids occur normally in women who are at the childbearing age or the age of 25-40. It is found in the research that mainly 20- 80% of women around the world develop Fibroids till the age of 50. Although the size of the fibroids usually decreases after menopause.

Fibroids generally occur in different sizes, big or small and the quantity of fibroids in the uterus also differs from person to person.

Most of the time, Women having fibroids may have no symptoms. Problems like anemia, increased bleeding, frequent menstruation, etc show that they have fibroid in the uterus. Apart from these, Here are the symptoms of uterine fibroid:

  1. Heavy bleeding, including bleeding, during or between periods.
  2. Abdominal pain below the navel or lower back pain.
  3. Swelling in the stomach.
  4. Anaemia
  5. Experience of weakness.
  6. Constipation.
  7. Leg pain.
  8. Bleeding from private parts.
  9. Frequent urination.
  10. Irregular Periods or Menstruation lasting longer than usual.

However, some factors associated with the development of Uterine fibroids are modifiable such as fibroids are more common in obese women.

Types Of Fibroids:

There are mainly three types of Fibroids that are found in women

  1. Intramural Fibroids:  They are the most common type of fibroids that are found mostly in women. They occur in the muscular wall of the uterus, they may be asymptomatic.
  2. Subserosal Fibroids:  These are the types of fibroids that mostly occur on the surface of the uterus, or they can also grow outside the surface of the uterus and remain attached by the small piece of tissue.
  3. Submucosal Fibroid: They are located in the muscles under the endometrium of the uterus, even a small size of fibroid in this location may cause bleeding and infertility.

Treatment Of Uterine Fibroids:

Most fibroids do not require any treatment unless they are causing symptoms as they shrink after menopause. Here, are some treatments for uterine fibroids that can be helpful.

  1. Medications: Many times you are given medicines to treat uterine fibroids. These medicines mainly help in reducing the blood flow inside the uterus, due to which the size of fibroids is reduced.
  2. Surgery: Surgery is also an option for treating uterine fibroids in which, depending on the size of the fibroid, the fibroid can be removed through surgery. Uterine fibroid surgery can be done in two ways. The first is by Myomectomy, in which only the fibroid is removed using telescopic Surgery. And second Hysterectomy, in which considering the number and large size of fibroids, the entire uterus is removed surgically.
  3. Uterine Artery Embolization: In this process, radiologists usually inject chemicals into the arteries that block the blood supply to the uterus, causing the fibroid to shrink in size due to it not being able to get nutrition.

Apart from this, women adopt other methods to cure fibroids, which help cure fibroids found in women. Like doing yoga, you can do yoga asanas like Pranayama, Kapalbhati, Bhujangasana, Dhanurasana, Balasana etc.

Apart from this, pay attention to such a diet which does not increase obesity. You can consume pure vegetarian food like fresh fruits, green vegetables, mixed pulses, protein-rich salads, milk, dry fruits and food rich in vitamins and minerals.
